Pool Tile Orlando

Waterline Tile

Replace the waterline band — the single most common pool tile repair in Central Florida.

Typical project range: $300 - $5,500

Waterline tile is the band of tile at the water’s edge of your pool — typically 6 inches tall, wrapping the entire perimeter. It’s the most exposed tile on any pool: constant water contact, calcium buildup, UV beating down on it, and freeze cycles in winter. As a result, it’s the most common pool tile repair we do in Orlando.

Common waterline tile problems

  • Loose or falling tile — calcium behind the tile or plaster bond failure
  • Cracked tile — freeze damage, impact damage, or substrate movement
  • Heavy calcium buildup — Orlando tap water leaves thick deposits that etch and stain tile
  • Missing grout — exposed to chemistry swings, grout breaks down in 10-15 years
  • Discolored or faded tile — UV damage over time

Waterline repair vs. replacement

  • Repair ($300-$1,500): localized damage, matching tile available, substrate intact
  • Section replacement ($800-$2,500): one wall or 25-40% of perimeter
  • Full waterline replacement ($2,500-$5,500): entire perimeter retiled — most cost-effective when damage is widespread

What drives the price

  • Pool perimeter (linear feet)
  • Tile selection (ceramic < porcelain < glass)
  • Substrate condition
  • Coping repair bundled in or not

Frequently asked questions

What is waterline tile?
The band of tile that sits at the water's edge, usually 6 inches tall, wrapping the entire pool perimeter. It's the most visible tile on your pool and the most likely to fail due to calcium exposure, freeze cycles, and UV.
Why does waterline tile keep falling off?
Three main causes: calcium buildup behind the tile (Orlando tap water is hard), freeze damage in winter, or plaster bond failure. We always inspect the substrate — sometimes the tile isn't the real problem.
Do I need to replace the whole waterline or just the damaged section?
Depends on how much is damaged and whether we can match the tile. If more than 20-25% is loose or cracked, full waterline replacement is usually more cost-effective and gives a uniform look.
